COMMON Affairs 2012 Fall/Winter Collection. The creators behind the new label COMMON Affairs, Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund, present their Fall/Winter 2012 collection. “It’s a fusion of London edge, Paris chic and Scandinavian minimalism,’ says Bakir. And the continental mixture of influences makes sense, considering Bakir and design partner Emma Hedlund studied at London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins in London, worked for Wooyoungmi and Kanye West in Paris before moving back to their native Malmö to kick start their new design venture last year. But there’s more to the Swedish connection than just a sense of simplicity and minimalism; Common is all about domestic manufacturing. For AW13 COMMON explores the core andfoundation of the brand, its identity and DNA. They dig deep in their Scandinavianheritage of minimal monochrome aesthetics and mix it with loud and bold print that has come to define COMMON. Every season COMMON works with a Swedishcreative artist and for AW13, the COMMON GROUND guest collaborator is the graphic duo Stinsensqueeze. STSQ ( stinsensqueeze ) is a design studiobased in London & Paris by Stina Gromark& Louise Naunton Morgan. Through analysisand deconstruction of preexisting systems,STSQ aims to restructure frameworks and generate innovative design methods that lead to undetermined outcomes.The graphic prints developed together withSTSQ are inspired by the 90’s obsession withlogos and brand recognition that led to theterm Logomania. The result is a strong gra-phic collection in bold black, clean whitesand graphite shades of grey. There are also accent colours of olive greens and gold.

In a world where concrete is ubiquitous, the mundane fabric of urban cityscapes, now it is given disparate context: the uniquely refined realm of perfumery. Here, the prosaic is treated as precious; stereotypes subverted. A versatile material finds an unpredictable form. An exploration of destruction, construction and creation, CONCRETE is a fragrance where material preconceptions are deftly demolished, paving the way for something new.

Notes - The richness of sandalwood is shattered to reveal its very essence, a radically new scent emerging from its fractured form. New contrasts are created through familiar fabrics. Industrial synthetics pierce natural familiarity; artificial rose oxide distorts an opulent woody overdose.

Creation: Layers of resinous warmth are lacquered with metallic seams, built upon a foundation of Comme des Garçons’ spice signature.
